Well this isnt going to be easy to sex these guys is it? Oh well I guess time will tell. Ive lowered the water level in the tank and turned up the heat a little, and lots of fresh food, now we will just let nature take it course and see what happenes :whistle: .

lol it is hard to sex them... i haven't bothered yet, but i think i just might have seen them mating a few times in the last week or so!

I thought snails were hermaphrodite? Oh wait - no - no - not all of them are are they... :nnow:

apple snails and those closely related to them are heterosexual: i.e. you get guys and girls... as far as i know, all the others are hermaphrodites

Hmm - how unusual. The Ramshorns I used to keep were Hermaphs - I seperated some as tiny tiny babies - and they bred on their own...

Kat how many did you start off with, and how fast do they breed?

well... i have about 50 right now, maybe more... but none of mine have laid eggs yet as there is no cover glass on the tank at the moment, but i'm having it custom cut next week, so i can expect a few clutches by New Year :D

no... i started off with 6, then added another 6 & an unhatched clutch... now i have too many to count :P

What do you mean no glass cover? On the top?

I dont get it, why cant they breed in an open topped tank?

the air is not warm enough (they lay eggs above the water's surface) so they just don't lay any eggs at the moment

once the air warms up, quite quick! usually they lay eggs oce a week, but with higher temps (like my tank) it can be up to every two days
