i just get mine from the LFS ^_^ it is more expencive, but then there's no risk of it being unsuitable. as for brand... no preferences

OK I spent a couple of hours yesterday preparing the tank for new silicone and I have to say i'm not sure!!! One of the end panels has no glue at all between the top and the side (it wiggles a bit!) Yikes!

Ok - get a ratchet belt from a DIY store - they're good for these jobs.

Sling it round the whole tank, round each pane - just loosely.
Silicone the non-wobblers first, then the wobbler, and then pull the belt reasonably tightly - so it doesn't wiggle any more and is held firmly against the support panels.
Smooth at the edges and there you go.
Leave the belt on until the Silicone is fully cured, and then it should be a fine, fully working tank.

LFS store "aquarium safe" silicone is alot more expensive. I am not sure of availability in the UK or Germany but GE Silicone I (not silicone II) 100% silicone is safe. Up until 5 years ago it used to list aquariums in its uses, but now states not to use in aquariums. There are 2 rumors about this, one is a few aquarists had deaths in their tanks and complained to GE. Most likely they didn't wait for it to cure fully before adding water or the deaths where unrelated. Even "aquarium sae" stuff is toxic until it cures, then it becomes inert. The 2nd reason is AGA or Perfecto contracted GE to make their sealant with their label, part of the agreement was that GE removed the "aquarium safe" labeling on their brand. Also, DAP makes an aquarium safe brand, if you look at the labeling it is the same as their 100% clear silicone sealant. Also if you check out the MSDS on all of the above they all have the same ingredients and same MSDS ;) The thing to avoid is any that have a mold/mildew resistant additive in it, like GE silicone II. The nice part about the ones that are aquarium safe but don't reccomend use or dont list aquariums as a use, is they are 1/2 to 1/3 the price of the Aquarium safe brands.
Now what do you mean you've spent ONLY $2,000?
Well, I intended to make alot of the more expensive things like the Lighting, protien skimmer, wave maker, and some GARF "aragocrete" base rock my self. But if I want to have this thing set up anytime this year I had to buy them. I deside to get a nice light fixture that had HQI MH lighting 10000K and PC blue actinic with built in LED lunar lights and cooling fans, that was $665 ( actually a very good price). The protien skimmer was like $160. Wave maker system was $86. Tank was $150. Pump for sump filter was $40. I got a glass canopy for $35 but I am not sure if it will be used because of the heat thrown from the lighting, I have to check. Sea salt for 150 gallons $40, Then the heater, sand, live rock and all the other nickel dime stuff.
Its quite an expensive hobby isn't it
Tell me about it, I expected this but hopefully I have got the things I need right off, instead of like how I started FW. I enede up having to replace inadequate things that came as part of a kit. :bmp: The "free" 75G now has just plants that I will be trying to sell. I put the rapid growers like Foxtail ( AKA Parrots Feather) and WaterSprite. I may try Discus in it one day. I am really enjoying the compressed CO2 set up I installed. I have a 3-way manifold on it that is split to make it a 4-way. So much less work then maintaining the tanks with Fermentation CO2. Just set it and your done until a refil is necessary, probably in 6 months :D

Both the black and the clear are the same price more or less here. I was going to get clear but my corner tank (from juwel) was built with black so I wasn't that bothered. Then I found a 310ml in black going on ebay and I bought it. For ?5 I couldn't resist. It was a bargain. Thanks for the tip though sharkdude.

tank looks great but I still haven't put any water in it and it's sitting in my storage room because we didn't sell the piano that was being sold to make space for it. Now and I don't want to say too much because it's very early but about Jan 13th we should be needing the space for a cot / krib and I'm not talking about fish!
