A question about tanks

I have herd about what are called " drilled tanks " What are these & what are they used for ?

Drilled Tanks are basically tanks with holes drilled in them. These holes are used for attaching a sump/refugium type filter to the system. It can also be used for closed circuit filtration/ water movement (which is basically the same as having an external canister filter)
