You may be able to have Power Compacts over that (yes Sam....Interpet) I have a 24w T5 Power Compact over my Nano-reef but you may be better off with the 18w T5 Power Compacts, the tube is only about 12" long, a bit less I think actually

:P Non-standard.....now that just makes things easier :D If you want quite bright lighting, you will easily get the 24w T5 PC in there....You will be able to pretty much grow anything lol

It is not blinding really, and you said you have a cover glass so this will refract some of the light anyway. I got mine from Surrey Pet Supplies (Ordered off the internet) and they are quite cheap....

Lighting Units: <a href='http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/Interpet_T5_Power_Compact.html' target='_blank'>http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/acatalo...er_Compact.html</a>

Bulbs: <a href='http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/acatalog/Interpet_T5_Power_Compact_Flourescent_Lamps.html' target='_blank'>http://www.surreypetsupplies.co.uk/acatalo...cent_Lamps.html</a>

Replacement bulbs are the cheapest I have seen which is another plus

Hope this helps

They come with fixing clips lol, you may have to drill the hood but it doesnt look unsightly, you just end up with two small white bumps on the top. I will get a picture of what it looks like on my Nano in a bit...

If you're going for T5s, I personally would use compacts, way cheaper, and freshwaters don't exactly need 500w of light.

Here are the two small white dots you end up with...

Ignore the bolts at the back...they are for the cooling fan :P
