This poor fish is a dyed parrot. It was up for sale in a uk aquarium shop along whith 4 others. The swines have even dyed the poor fishes lips red to make it look like it is wearing lipstick.

I saw that in the latest PFK mag, I cannot believe that anyone would do such a thing to a fish. Hybridising is one thing but then doing this... totally unacceptable

That is just awful, I wish people could just see the beauty of a fish, no matter the natural color and not try to do such stupid things like dying it. Poor fish.

although all my LFS have signed the no dye pledge, the GFB still stocks parrots in a variety of red-yellow colours.

What colour are the natural parrots? The blues and geens look obviously fake, but the orangy redy yellowy ones look like they might have been that colour to start with....

the "natural parrot" Hoplarchus Psittacus is a dark green colour... it is not the same species as the more common "blood parrots" which are a man made hybrid of many different SAm cichlids

and last but not least the dyed parrot:

I'm a bit confused now....and the pics aren't showing Kat!

So with the hybrid one, the blood parrots, when they come out of their little man made (or man put together) egg, what colours could they naturally be, without any dye?

any colour listed under the "man made parrots"

the only dyed ones are the whites with colour.

the last 2 pics mightn't be showing if you haven't joined PFK or you aren't logged in.

I recon they should ban it properly - not just "leave it to owners discretion."
