Well this guy near me thinks he knows it all about keeping fish.

He has a 48" x 12" x 15" tank. He has an external filter ( Fluval 405 ).

It is what he has in this one tank that really gets my goat.

4 pairs keyhole cichlids
5 Discus
4 red tailed cigar shark
4 Silver / bala shark
1 18" knife fish
1 8" plec
11 corys
1 large catfish
5 clown loach
1 upside down catfish
3 pairs bolivian rams
1 6" redtailed black shark

That is all I can remember at the moment.

I have told him that his tank is way to over stocked but he won't listen. :(

He likes me to look after his fish when he goes away so what I might do is to take some of them fish out and put them in my tanks and tell him they died. What do you recon to this guys?

I don't want the fish to suffer. :(

Holy s**t, thats BAD I think you need to do something fast, your plan might work, at least you can sue the over-stocking as an excuse for their "deaths"

Thats only......does the maths....30 GALLONS!!!!!! He can't keep that many fish in there! They must be wall to wall..........

Oh dear... I would either do what you say, and move out some fish and say they died, or get the RSPCA involved.... I'm not really sure what they could do, but it might frightn him into sorting out something...

I mean, whats anyone going to do with 4 bala sharks, that will get to 12in or die getting there....5 clown loaches and those cigar sharks which get big as well.....oh dear... I think I need to have a lie down...

as you said. i'd start with the discus as they're the most fragile, but would also think about thev fastgrowing fish as they'll outgrow the tank faster...

how long has this death trap been set up?

Well since posting I have been down the house and got his discus out. They are in one of my spare 50 gal tanks ( thank goodness I keep it cycled ). I have cigar sharks so his have gone in with mine. ( they have a tank of there own except for a cat fish ). The knife fish is here too. H e has had to go in with the cigar sharks till tomorrow. I have also got the keyholes home. I hope that is enough for now.

He has had this tank set up for about 6 months. But I havn't been round to look after the fish for about 7 1/2 months.

Ok been down there this morning the fish seem loads better and I have done a BIG water change on his tank. I hope he isn't foolish enough to do that again.

I got the cigar sharks and the knife fish down to my local Maidenhead aquatics and got some money back for them. I have left the money at the guys house as he wanted me to sell some fry he had for sale. I have took the fry and left him the money. :)

Good thinking, the only trouble is how to make sure he dosent get back into the same position again.....

Hopefully the tale of dead fish due to overcrowding will do the trick.

OMG - that tank is the same size as the one I have at work - I wouldn't let the manageress have 2 Axolotl in it, never mind that amount of fish!!!

Best of luck with the cover story - hope it teaches him a lesson!
(And congrats on the new fish! *giggles*)

If anyone else finds anything like that - let us know asap!
If there are any coldwater fish, then I can offer a home to about 3, not that I have upgraded from a 7gal to a 19!

All my fish look really tiny now.

I swear Zelda just grew a bit though.
