Black Widow Tet

Within my group of Black Widow Tets (U.S will probably know them as Black Skirts) One of the largest has developed an odd black bump on his nose. Looks just like his black skin further down on his body, but is slightly raised.

Water params are fine, and have been for forever, so I think I'm ruling out ammonia burn...

Eating fine, swimming fine. No other fish seems to be affected.

Any guesses? Brain not in gear this week, and I can't even come up with an obvious... All the diseases I can think of don't have a black colouration...

A tumour would be my first... if the fish is old, it's not uncommon for them to start growing bumps. These are mostly harmless, but can sometimes cause discomfort or pain to the fish. I would recommend watching him carefully for any change in behaviour and check up on him twice a day.

He's about 3-4 now. About the size of a 50p without fins. He's greying out too, so I think perhaps old age is creeping up on him.

Seems healthy enough though. Will keep an eye on him and see if he starts to exhibit any stress signs.

I'd agree with Kat. It may also be a cyst, so just keep close watch. If it ruptures, you need to isolate and antibac - but that's only worst case really.

Hey, we haven't seen any pics of your fish for ages Saracen! :P
