Hi guys , i was just wondering what your water changing
schedual was, and how often you gravel vac?
Also if anyone has any tips on carrying out the same. :)
At the moment i try to do a 20% water change in my tanks
once a week,(more often in fry tanks) and a major gravel vac
every 2/3 weeks.
I'm still lunkings 5g buckets to do water changes,
i'm sure someone has an easier way, :)

I do about 30% per week with a full gravel vac at the same time, so how much water I take out really depends on how long the vac takes me.

The little tanks get 30-40 twice a week.

I only have to lug buckets for the new water going in. The big tank is by a window, so I just got some extra hose from B&Q and stuck that to my existing vac head, so the water vents straight out the window into a flower bed.......wonderful fertiliser!

All the americans seem to rave about these python things, but I'm not sure how they would work...aparently they remove and return the water for you.

20% for both tanks once a week for me. Vacuum the gravel at the same time.

I would say about 10% a week to start off but as you add more Livestock then probably up that to about 15%-20%

Do you think I could get away with 15% or so bi-weekly?

Yeah I don't see why not, it can be done that way quite easily. If I remember rightly, you are skimming arent you? If you are then bi-weekely 15-20% shouldn't be a problem

Yeah I am going to skim. Should I install a straight away or about a month after first livestock is introduced?

Straight away is usually what is done, but once the tank starts cycling you should notice it starting to work... a small amount of foam will be collected to start off and this may increase eventually.

And do most people leave them on all the time? Or just during the day or night?
